Legend of Legaia - Part 7 - Huge Enemy Zeto

Welcome back to more Legend of Legaia.  Last time, we revived the Genesis Tree in East Voz Forest, and met a new Ra-seru, Ozma.  Today, we are finally going to make our offense against the forces of the mist and storm the newly revealed castle in the mist valley.

Before we head out, we can check up on Maya in the kitchen.  By talking to her, she’ll give us 10 Healing Leaves!  Apparently, we get this if we respond that we will go explore the new castle in a previous cutscene.  Anyways, this is a pretty good get, as it saves us some money, because…

new stock, finally

If we check out the equipment store here, they’ve updated their wares.  Most notably, they’ve got new armor for Gala.  You’re probably unlikely to have enough gold to buy everything at this point, so purchase what you can for now.  Though, I would recommend saving money and not buy the Battle Knife for Vahn.  You’ll see why later.

The door and fan mechanism is still broken, but with Biron Monastery free from mist, I think they'll be fine without it.

As we head outside, there are a few places I’d like to visit before we tackle the main event.  Let’s head back to the Ancient Wind Cave.

Despite what it looks like, this is NOT a reused screenshot

The mist is still here, which is actually a good thing for what I wanna do here.  Gimard and Theeder are roaming around here, so I wanna capture these enemies for Gala’s brand new Ra-seru.  We'll also be finding these enemies in the next area we're going to, but I like to take care of this now.  Remember to equip an Ivory Book to ease the capture rate.

Speaking of seru magic, I wanna mention a little something here.  Much like how each character is proficient with a certain type of weapon, they’re also proficient with a certain element of magic.  What element they’re good at should be pretty obvious, should you look at their status screen: Meta is good with fire, Terra is good with wind (as ironic as that sounds), and Ozma is good with lightning.  Also, each character is weak at casting certain elements.  Example: I had Meta cast Gizam – a water seru – and it did about 200HP damage to all enemies, compared to Terra casting Gizam doing 300HP damage.  This will also translate to elemental weakness to our party members, meaning Vahn will take extra damage to water attacks.

Let’s take a quick swing to Drake Castle.  Remember that guy that can teach party members new arts?  Well, now that we have Gala in our team, he can now teach him Flying Knee Attack.

finally, Gala can do captain falcon's knee attack

Also, a reminder to myself: come back the shop here to buy that defender chain.

Back at Rim Elm, we can talk to Tetsu and have a new cutscene with Gala.

Tetsu reminisces about how he last saw him as a child.  He asks how Songi has been, but seeing Gala’s expression, he decides to not pursue it any further.  While we’re here, Tetsu can teach Gala a new art: Ironhead.  Though… I’ve already learned it.

As we approach the once misty valley, you’ll notice that we’ve stayed in the overworld.  Yeah, those items that you could find while approaching this area beforehand?  Hope you collected them, cause those areas are now inaccessible.

One more quick detour: this is something I wanted to personally check.  Let’s head back to Mt. Rikuroa from the north side.

oh yeah, this is blocked off

As we head to the cave where Noa fought the golem, we find it caved in.  Again, those items in that cave are now gone (though, you’d have to be real blind to miss them!).

I made one more check at Snowdrift Cave.  Unfortunately, there’s nothing there.  Ah well.

Now entering: Zeto's Dungeon

Anyways, with all that out of the way, let’s head to our actual destination: Zeto’s Dungeon!

looks more like a factory if you ask me

As our heroes reach the source of the mist, Noa notices the pillars surrounding the place.  Mist is pouring out from the top!  The Ra-serus explain that deep inside this place, there is a Mist Generator creating all this mist.  With their combined powers, they should be able to stop the generator and bring an end to the mist in this land.

A pretty small castle, eh?  Doesn’t even look like a castle; looks more like a small pyramid or something.  But as we enter, we find stairs that go even deeper.

Doesn't show here, but those tubes are pulsing slowly...

At the bottom, we reach a factory-like labyrinth with flesh colored tubes pumping out mist.  Eww…

All the enemies we’ll encounter in this dungeon are serus.  We’ve encountered Gimard and Theeder – both at their lvl 2 forms – as they make their return here.  But here’s a new seru we’ll encounter: Zenoir.

let's give him a HAND

This hand-shaped hydra is certainly a bit stronger than the usual enemies we’ll find here.  It’s fire attack can do quite a bit of damage, but other than that, nothing you can’t handle at this point.  Be sure to catch this one!  It’s a pretty good magic.

As we explore the labyrinth, you should find a chest containing Thunder Book I, which will teach a new hyper art for Gala.  Definitely pick this one up.

Another chest here contains a Fury Boost.

casts fury on a party member- wait, wrong game

This is a neat item that raises the length of your attack bar for the duration of the whole battle.  Unfortunately, you cannot stack this with spiriting up to get an even longer bar.

As we approach the end of this maze, we will find an elevator that will bring us even deeper in the dungeon.  By the way… that elevator totally looks like the one from Megaman 8.

Didn’t know they got Dr. Wily to design this place.

We reach the bottom, and find a save point right next to us.  But, there’s another chest right behind the elevator!  Here, you’ll find a Short Sword for Vahn.

Remember how I said to not buy the Battle Knife back at the monastery?  This is why.  Not only would we get this weapon relatively soon, but it’s stronger than the knife!  Equip this on Vahn, and let’s continue onward.

The dungeon has taken a more modern design, with corridors and sliding doors.  Much like the upper floor, this area’s a bit of a maze.  Make sure you nab all the treasure as you go along!

Nighto's also here, I guess

We’ll also encounter Vera lvl 2 at this floor!  You know the deal, a stronger version of the bat we’ve faced before.  However, this seru can now heal itself or its cohorts!  This is also your chance to have Gala capture it, and I highly recommend doing so.

save your game

We travel further into the dungeon and find this save point here.  Save your game – we’ve got an encounter coming up.  We head towards the corridor until we hear a familiar voice.

Songi returns, and he taunts our heroes once again.  Our heroes get ready to fight him off, but Gala stops them, and wants to challenge Songi one-on-one.

Songi accepts his challenge, believing this will be no different than before!

Last time, Songi completely wiped the floor off of Gala, but now that Gala has Ozma on his side, the playing ground should be even.  Good news is: this is one of the easier boss fights.  Songi doesn’t have too much HP, and given that you have Vera, you can restore more HP than he can deal against you.

this is straight up a shinku hadoken, you can't fool me game

His most dangerous attack is the Hyper Wave, doing 200+ damage to Gala, but I’ve had Gala outspeed Songi, so there wasn’t much trouble here.

I am, however, mad salty that he completely blocked Gala’s hyper art, and follows up with his own super move.  That is some grade A fighting game nonsense.

But with enough damage dealt, Songi yields, and expresses how pleased he is to see Gala grow in strength.  As a sign of gratitude (in his own way…), Songi informs our heroes that Zeto is waiting for us at the Mist Generator, so we should expect a fight there.  And with that, Songi runs off.  It seems that Songi isn’t completely sided with the mist… just what is he up to?

By the way, we also got a Mettle Ring from that fight.

why do they call it accrual, it got me so confused as a kid

This is a pretty good accessory that raises AP recovery rate by 10%.  I’ll give it to Noa, as her arts tend to cost more AP than the others.

another dr wily elevator

save your game

We head forward to find another Wily elevator that will take us even deeper into the dungeon.  We’ll find another save point as we exit.  Save your game and head onwards.

The next room is one long corridor, clearly leading to something big.  With that said, this is our last chance to do whatever we can in this dungeon.  Collect any items we can find, capture any seru you may have missed, cause once we pass through this corridor, we won’t be able to return here.  While I did mention that no seru magic is missable, we won’t be seeing Gimard, Theeder, or Vera again for a long, long time, so if you want to get their magic, I suggest capturing them now.

As for preparing for the upcoming boss (don’t think that’s a spoiler – we’re strictly told we’re gonna have a boss coming up), my go to rule for grinding in this game is to fight enough enemies until you get enough money to buy the best equipment currently available for everyone.  For this case, I kept fighting enemies till I could get all the equipment from the monastery shop (which wasn’t much grinding, by the way).  If you have extra money, I would also suggest buying a Deep Sea Jewel, as it will help in the upcoming fight.

I went as far as bought one for myself… and forgot to equip it.  Whoops.

With preparations done, let’s head into the next room.

We find a vast room containing a giant construct in front of us: the Mist Generator.  If we can destroy this generator, the mist surrounding the land will disappear.  Our heroes run toward it, but are stopped as they see Zeto appear in front of them.

replace "The Mist" with "Tanasinn"

He repeats his speech of the mist being salvation like a demented preacher.  Noa wants payback to what Zeto did to wolf Terra, and Vahn sure wants to get back at him for his attack back at Rim Elm.  Our heroes charge towards the madman as he transforms… into a giant enemy crab!

Zeto has revealed his true form in this battle, so don’t expect him to pull any punches here.  If you thought Songi was an easy fight, that’s because he was a warmup to this guy.  Zeto has a ton of HP and hits pretty hard if you’re unprepared.

His regular attack isn’t too much of a concern – does about 200+ damage.  The main attack you should be concerned with is Big Wave.

spirit up, or get wiped out

This attack does a ton of water damage to everyone.  Keep an eye on Vahn’s HP, as he’s weak to water based attacks.  Fortunately: Zeto will always telegraph this attack by using Call Wave before actually using it.  When he’s about to use it, spirit everyone up so you can reduce the damage to about 200HP on everyone.  If you’re having trouble surviving this attack, remember that the Deep Sea Jewel accessory can mitigate the damage even further (despite being quite pricey).

Zeto is water elemental, so fire attacks will do really good damage against him.  Vahn’s Tornado Flame hyper art should do much more damage than usual.  Zenoir’s also a good magic to fight him off.  I say that, but in the video, Gala’s theeder magic did almost equal damage to Vahn’s zenoir.

In this video, also, I demonstrate using a Super Art with Noa!  This is achieved by using a certain combination of regular arts.  I got this one by combining Rushing Gale with Sonic Javelin.  Unlike the other arts, super arts do not get recorded in your art list.

As usual, Noa can outspeed this boss, so I’d follow up any big wave attack with Noa tossing out a Healing Bloom.  Though, in this fight, I’ve never seen Zeto spam Big Wave like this before…

With enough damage done, Zeto is finally defeated.

As he dies, he mentions a certain name.  Prince Cort?  Seems like there was someone above Zeto calling all the shots.  And with that, he shatters and we are free to deal with the Mist Generator.

turns out Zeto was made of glass all along

Like awakening the Genesis Trees, Vahn, Noa, and Gala shines a ball of light and they toss their light into the generator.

spirit bomb x3

We watch in the following FMV as the mechanisms of the Mist Generator cease functioning, and the entire structure turns to stone, crumbling before our very eyes.

Drake Kingdom is finally free from the mist, at long last!  Our heroes watch in awe at what they just managed to accomplish.  However, Noa notices Terra crying...

Terra assures Noa that nothing is wrong.  The mist is finally gone here, but there are other places where the mist is still prevalent, so our job is far from over.  Our heroes leave the dungeon, unaware of what happened behind them…

well that's foreboding

we see what appears to be a Ra-seru egg shatter in the ruins of the generator.  Clearly, there is something that the Ra-serus are not telling us…

We return back to Biron Monastery to report to Zopu what has transpired.

Zopu believes that by heading into the direction of the mist, we will encounter Songi again.  He explains to us that the land to the north is covered by mist.  Looks like we got our new destination.

never mind the other monsters on the way :P

Maya interrupts the conversation again and tells us that she will be finally leaving the monastery and return to Rim Elm.

Alright, and with that, let’s end things here for now.  Next time, we venture north into new lands!
