Legend of Legaia - Part 15 - Storming Dohati's Castle
Welcome back to more Legend of Legaia. Last time, we saved the kingdom of Ratayu from not one, but 2 terrible fates! Today, we are given access to Dohati’s Castle, the source of the mist plaguing the Sebucus Islands, and finally put a stop to the terror.
We can re-explore Ratayu again, and find that the people here are now more grateful for our heroes’ actions, now that they have stopped the mist and stopped the seru bride plot. It’s a good day in Ratayu! The door to Juggernaut’s room is sealed off, according to the soldiers. Certainly for the best.
Actually… there’s something involved with that place we can do, but not for much, much, MUCH later. We’ll probably not see what I’m talking about in this playthrough, but I’m just letting you know that’s there, and I’ll probably discuss that later.
We can return to the inn and Eliza thanks us for saving her life, along with the other women who were doomed to be seru brides. Because of our deeds, we can rest at the inn for free! We just got through a boss fight, so let’s do just that.
Noa finds herself in yet another dream. Her mother and father talk to her once again, and they mention how they have made a terrible mistake. A terrible mistake that has devastated the whole world and has kept them in the deepest depths of the mist. Does this have something to do with the mist itself…? They urge Noa to head to Conkram so they may atone for their mistake.
Before we leave the inn, we can talk to this lady here and she can teach us some new arts for our heroes. Apparently, someone left a book that can teach new moves. Anyways, you can learn Cyclone for Vahn, Mirage Lancer for Noa, and Bull Horns for Gala.
Anyway, with that, let’s open the west gate, and be on our way.
tfw can't fit whole thing on one screen |
Our journey in Sebucus Islands is near its end. It’s a bit of a walk, but our destination is across the island to the castle.
We’ve got the usual monsters roaming the overworld, like the Mad Ogre and the Wolf, but we’ve got a new monster we can encounter here: High Gomboo.
Like its predecessor, it can steal from our inventory, but now it can also buff itself by raising its agility. Still not too threatening of a monster. Take it down quickly should it steal from your stuff.
But at last, we reach Dohati’s Castle. We can see the castle placed near the seas, with a short bridge leading us to the entrance. Once we destroy the Mist Generator housed within this castle, Sebucus Islands will be free from the mist.
Much like Zeto’s Dungeon, all the enemies we’ll face here comprise only of seru. Expect the usual faces, such as Swordie, Nova, Orb, Freed, Gola Gola, Viguro, and Mushuru (most of them in their lvl 2 states). But added to the mix is a new seru: Aluru.
I wouldn't wanna see this thing in the middle of the night
This frightening looking seru is another light elemental. It’s Aluru cannon attack can do a bit of damage (about 500), but otherwise it’s not too strong. Despite being a floating monster, you can hit with low attacks. Remember to equip Ivory Books if you’re trying to catch this one.
Another note about Aluru: this seru is unique, as it is the only light seru magic that attacks, and – by that extension – the only light based attack in the entire game, as far as I know. It’s quite strong, although Kemaro deals a bit more damage. Another neat effect is that its magic can sometimes 1HKO a regular monster. Of course, the 1HKO doesn’t work on bosses, but the damage is pretty great, regardless.
Ozma: Gala, your armpit stinks
And that’s mostly it about Dohati’s Castle I wanna talk about! Not much story or cutscenes till we get to the top. Of course, there are a couple of chests here and there I should mention, but overall, there’s not much here to talk about. It’s mostly a dungeon-crawling experience to the top.
trust me on this - they're moving up and down
There are some details about this castle that I want to mention though. For example: we got escalators! Like Zeto’s Dungeon, this castle has a more modern design. Unfortunately, we cannot go against the escalator’s direction.
this is giving me some phantasy star 4 vibes
The castle is divided into 2 towers, and we travel across these towers through this glass walkway. I think that’s pretty neat.
Also, there are these glass floors with what appears to be a fossil underneath. What is that exactly? Some kind of seru remains? Again, something that’s never completely explained. Maybe Dohati liked collecting these or something.
This treasure chest (somewhere in the left tower) contains a War Soul, an accessory that boosts attack power of arts. A really great accessory right here. I think I’ll give it to Noa, as she tends to attack multiple times with her arts.
save your game |
But eventually, we’ll climb up to the top of the castle. A save point is right next to us as we enter the next room, so take this opportunity to save your game. There are a few more treasure chests in the left and right rooms ahead, so make sure you grab those. At this point, I would suggest warping out and resting up, and also capture those Alurus for each party member if you haven’t.
A side note: if you need to do some level grinding, I would suggest doing that outside of Dohati’s Castle, in the overworld, rather than inside the castle. The enemies in the overworld generally give more exp than the serus in the castle, for some reason.
But once you’re ready, let’s head the next room. Inside, we find the Mist Generator, spewing its mist. Our Ra-Seru friends warn us that something is nearby. Once we head towards the generator, a voice interrupts us. The voice reveals itself as Dohati!
I am Zeto 2.0 |
This is the monster that ordered Xain to kill off Hari, as well as manipulate Saryu into creating Juggernaut. With the Sim-Seru entrusted to him by Cort (there’s that name again!), he transforms into… whatever this form is, and we go into a fight!
There’s no gimmick or tricks behind the fight against Dohati; he just hits hard. He has only one special attack, but it’s more than enough to be a threat: Chaos Breath.
I've heard of bad breath, but this is ridiculous
This attack deals heavy damage on all party members (around 900 damage) and has a chance to inflict venom. His regular attack also does a bit of damage as well, but I think your main concern should be dealing with that Chaos Breath. Keep everyone’s HPs up at all times. Dohati uses this attack often and there’s no telegraphing with this attack.
The usual spirit and attack strategy works well for this fight, especially when spirit reduces the damage done by chaos breath. The War Soul accessory really comes in handy in this fight; I managed to do 1600 damage on him with Noa! Kemaro and Aluru magic is also really great against Dohati. Just be mindful of the high MP cost; you may wanna keep some for Orb healing. The venom status effect shouldn’t be too much of a concern, but in the case that it is, remember that Orb can restore that status effect at lvl 3.
With enough attacks done on Dohati, he finally falls. But he says that even though he will perish, Juggernaut is still free. The monster that destroyed Rim Elm, Snowdrift Cave, and Biron Monastery – Juggernaut is responsible for all this, and it’s still out there. And with that, Dohati shatters into pieces.
Our heroes use their Ra-Seru powers to destroy the Mist Generator, and they watch as the generator crumbles before them.
Our heroes celebrate, but are quickly interrupted as they see something float upwards from where the mist generator once stood. It seems to be a ra-seru. It seems to be communicating with our heroes’ ra-serus in a language we can’t understand, and shortly after, the ra-seru shatters. What was that all about?
Our heroes try asking their ra-serus about what just happened, but it doesn’t seem they’re ready to talk about it right now. Whatever it is, it must be real distressing for them. For now, our heroes will have to take their word on this, as they promise them to reveal what happened when they’re ready.
But with that said: hey! The mist is finally gone from Sebucus Islands! That also means that Octam and Vidna are free from the mist as well! Our heroes return to Ratayu and report this to Saryu. Having learned that the Juggernaut he created has ravaged our heroes’ homes, he apologizes for the mess he has caused. However, Noa reaffirms him that the Sim-seru was the cause behind this, not him.
With the mist gone from here, our next destination is towards where the mist lies, and the name Karisto Kingdom keeps popping up. Saryu helps our heroes in that regard and mentions that a flying train in Octam once carried passengers from there to Karisto. Since the mist has gone, there may be a chance that that may be operational once again! And who knows: if we’re going to the Karisto Kingdom, we may finally meet Noa’s parents there.
We have freed the Sebucus Islands from the mist, but our journey is far from over. Next time: we head to Octam and see if we can travel to the Karisto Kingdom from there!
