Legend of Legaia - Part 19 - The Great Karisto Kingdom Tour

Welcome back to more Legend of Legaia.  Last time, we revived the Genesis Tree and restored Sol from the terrors of the mist.  Today… who’s up for a third exploration of Sol?  Don’t worry, this will be the last part where we’ll have a part dedicated to this city.  There’s a LOT to do and see in this place!  But, we’re reaching the end of what this city has to offer.

As we climb up from the base of Sol, we find some soldiers who have been free from the mist.  Interesting to see we got people here who had fought the war from 10 years ago.  People are flocking to the lower floors now that the mist is gone.  Another soldier mentions that Dr. Usha left to the northwest.

There’s another inn we can visit in the lower floor.  In the downstairs floor, we can meet this important looking man: Emperor Etora VIII.  Or rather: Etora Ignao Durk de La Micentus VIII.  That’s a long name… though I doubt it can beat Inga Khura’in’s full name.

Etora thanks our heroes for freeing his people from the mist, and says he has a message for our heroes from Dr. Usha, and gives us this:

this implies he said this out loud

Well that’s rather blatant.  Apparently, this must be a password we’ll have to remember.

We can also stay here for the night.  I would do so since we just came out from a boss fight.

Noa has yet another dream.  She sees the light from her mother and father once again.  They tell Noa that she is coming closer and closer to Conkram.  However, they tell Noa that this may be the last time they can communicate to her through her dreams, as “he” has found out.  “He” as the man who brought the mist to this world.

Their voices fade away before they can reveal a name to Noa, and as she calls out to her parents, Noa hears another voice.  He laughs at Noa’s pathetic predicament and urges Noa to come to Conkram to see her parents.

Looks like this is the last time we’ll have these dream sequences from Noa.  Meanwhile, let’s explore Sol a bit more.  There’s some new shops that opened in the lower floors.

This item shop here sells a new accessory: Guardian Ring.  This raises both upper and lower defense stats by 20%.  It’s basically an azure jewel and scarlet jewel combined into one.  This seems like a good accessory to have, but I wanna save my money for other equipment.  Note that this store’s also selling Healing Berries, a healing item that fully restores HP.

Another shop has opened, and they’re selling new equipment.  Here is where I’ll finally spend my hard earned cash!  I’ve been saving up since Ratayu, but the funny thing is I STILL don’t have enough to buy everything here!  Money in this game’s real scarce, man.

Speaking of money: now that we have access to the Muscle Dome, we can spend 100 coins for a Soru Bread, and sell that for 3000G.  Apparently, that’s a fast way of getting money.  As for me, I think I’ll do a little bit of that and the usual money grind off of monsters.  That way, I’ll feel at a comfortable enough level for future bosses and whatnot.

If we go upstairs from the weapon shop, we can find some scientists here.  Apparently, before the mist came, they used to make seru here.  So that’s what those green jars are there for.  That’s a bit disturbing…

So, remember that totally not hentai book we got back at the bottom of Sol?  Remember that Biron monk who’s looking for a book that can teach new arts?  Let’s give that book to him.

The monk goes through a fit of… embarrassment, as the game calls it, and is able to teach our heroes some new arts.  He can teach Spin Combo for Vahn, Rushing Gale for Noa, and Black Rain for Gala.  I think we’ll leave him alone at this point…

One more place to check out in Sol.  Let’s head back to the Muscle Dome.  You know, there’s a reason why it’s called the Muscle Dome, and we’re gonna check that out.  We can enter a tournament here!

The fee is 100 coins, and we can select between 3 levels: Beginner, Expert, and Master.  I’ll just go with Beginner for now.

It looks like the game gives you a choice between your characters to enter the tournament, but…

well, it doesn’t seem that they wanna enter, so only Vahn can participate.  That’s right, it’s a one-on-one battle.

In beginner mode, you face against enemies for 8 rounds.  Vahn must fight alone, and items are banned from the tournament.  Otherwise, everything is free game.  The enemies you will face in this tournament are:

Round 1: Red Piura
Round 2: Skeleton
Round 3: Drake Ghost
Round 4: Caruban
Round 5: Gola Gola
Round 6: Zeto!
Round 7: Viguro lvl 2
Round 8: Xain!

The first few rounds should be trivial.  You should be able to take down the first 3 opponents with one hit.  Caruban’s there, but you’re far, far stronger than you were the first time you encountered this boss.  One combo should be enough to take it down.  Zeto might catch you off guard, as it may take a couple of turns to defeat.  Remember to spirit during Big Wave.

Xain may be the big issue.  Fighting him solo can be a bit of a challenge, and your seru magic for healing can only last you for so long.  Just hit him with your best moves, and spirit up whenever he’s about to toss out a Terio Punch.

I should also mention that Vahn will restore some HP after every fight, based on how well you fought in the round.  Fortunately, you’re not just relying on seru magic for healing!

By winning the Beginner circuit, you will be rewarded with 818 coins!  That’s a 718 coin profit; not too bad.  Of course, the higher circuits give away more coins, but we’ll try those in a later time.

And with that… I think we can finally leave Sol, the biggest tourist trap in all of Legaia.  However, as we leave, we’re greeted with a cutscene shift to the Floating Castle.

It seems the master of this castle has noticed our heroes’ deeds in Sol, as they talk to the Delilas family.  They mention something about Koru, but it’s left vague to us.  The Delilas family are then dismissed, and we see Songi with a smirk on his face.

Clearly he’s up to something…

Back in the overworld, our next task is to look for Dr. Usha.  But while on our journey, let’s do a bit of exploration!  By following the spiraling path from Sol, we can reach this town on the other side.  It’s a bit of a walk, but eh, we need the EXP, right?  Another neat thing: we can clearly see the floating castle hover over us as we travel the overworld.

Speaking of which… we got ourselves the Astral Sword for defeating Gaza, right?  Looks really strong; it boosts attack by a lot!  There’s just one big problem…

big... get it?

No one is proficient with this huge sword.  Meaning that equipping it practically doubles the length of your arms bar in attacking.  The individual attack may be greater, but I think this is a case of quantity over quality.  Sorry old man, but this weapon isn’t so great for us.

now entering: Buma

We finally reach the town I mentioned before.  This is Buma.  This place seems rather chilly, as everything is covered in ice.  There are supposed to be Genesis Trees in this town, so our heroes head deeper in.

Cara also seems to be here, and she’s kneeling near the trees, uttering something to herself.  She leaves before our heroes catch up.

T-POSING NOA MAKES AN INNUENDO

As our heroes take a closer look at the Genesis Trees, they notice something’s wrong with them – they’re all frozen!  Can we even revive the Genesis Tree at this state?

darn, not even a spirit bomb can thaw it out

Nevertheless, our heroes try to do so; they concentrate their thoughts into a ball of light and toss it toward the tree.  Alas, nothing happens.  It seems we cannot revive the tree at this point.

Noa has an idea: what about ra-seru eggs?  After all, we found one back in the Genesis Tree in West Voz Forest.  However, it seems there are no ra-seru eggs to be found in any of these trees – someone must have taken them.  Noa suspects it may have been Cara who took those eggs; after all, she has been carrying one this whole time.

Despite that, there are no other leads here in Buma, so our heroes decide to leave here for the time being.

You can return to Buma and explore a bit, but you’ll quickly find that there’s not much to explore.  There’s no treasure chests to be found, and all the doors are frozen shut.  There are a few new enemies we can encounter, though:

We can encounter this Sorcerer, basically a palette swap of the Mage we fought before.  I haven’t seen it use any new moves from its previous version.  It’s the usual monster we’ve faced.  Wailing Bird is another foe we’ve seen before under a different color.  Doesn’t have a lot of HP, so you can take it down fairly quickly.

One more monster we can encounter is Freed lvl 2.  We’ve seen its lower level version back in Sebucus Islands.  It’s honestly not as strong as you’d expect.  If you haven’t gotten this seru in your collection, now’s your chance to get it.

But with that, let’s leave Buma for now and check out another area.  To the right is a fishing spot, but as you’d expect… everything’s under ice, so we can’t really go fishing here.  If we go north from here though, we’ll head into a new area.

now entering: Nivora Ravine

This is Nivora Ravine.  However, like everywhere else, everything’s frozen over.  You won’t go too far to find the path is blocked by a giant block of ice.  We can’t do much around here, so let’s head back.

you know, we could try melting it with fire seru, just saying 😛

There’s some more things to the west from here.

now entering- oh, not yet

There seems to be a tower we can enter.  However, let’s not go there yet.  There’s another area we can explore further to the west.  A strange black altar like area rests there.

now entering: Uru Mais

This is Uru Mais.  If you recall, this was the place where Seru would appear in the world of Legaia.  As we enter the place, one thing you may notice is that there is no mist!  It’s kinda interesting; you could easily associate seru with mist, as the 2 come hand in hand throughout our journey, but as we enter what we could consider the seru birthplace, it’s kinda striking to see no mist around.  Not even the Floating Castle can cover Uru Mais in mist, it seems.

Next to the black construct is a small building in ruins.  In it is a book.  It reads:

“Guidelines for Seru Trapping
Seru come out at midnight!  A trapper must therefore patrol Uru Mais only at sunrise.  Uru Mais is off-limits from sunset to sunrise because that is when the Whispers are frequent.  A trapper must never wear a captured seru.  All seru should be sent to Sol as soon as they are caught.  The Whispers are the voices of a demon!  Trapper, never listen to the Whispers, even in daytime!  A trapper must never touch the three doors on the side of Uru Mais.”

It seems Sol had a procedure for capturing seru.  But what’s this about a whisper?  Anyways, we can check the treasure chest next to the book and get a Healing Berry.

There isn’t much around here in Uru Mais to examine.  Although the black texture of this place makes it look unfinished 😛

I think we’ll end things here for now.  A bit lighter on progression, but I think it’s a needed break for me as we made a lot of progress on the previous part.  Next time: we continue our search for Dr. Usha!
