Legend of Legaia - Part 20 - Radical Dreamers
Now entering: Usha Research Centre |
Welcome back to more Legend of Legaia. Last time, we explored the Karisto Kingdom and pretty much got a bearing on what this place is like. Today, we will continue our search for Dr. Usha. …Which shouldn’t be for long, because we’ve already found the research centre. Also, today’s part is gonna be pretty plot heavy, so who’s up for reading summary posts???
This suspicious looking tower is the Usha Research Centre. We can actually meet some monsters here. Such as this Killer Wolf and Boogie Pump. Nothing much to say about these monsters; they’re palette swaps of monsters we’ve faced before, I don’t think I really need to elaborate any further.
As we head inside, we’re met with an empty room with a pipe leading into the ceiling. A sign in the center of the room reads to call through the pipe. Noa talks through the pipe, and hears a voice! This could be the Dr. Usha we’ve been looking for. It seems that the doctor seems hesitant in bringing our heroes in, as he suspects them to be serus in disguise. A fair claim, but we need to get in anyways. He asks for a password, and if you remember back in Sol, Etora gave our heroes something that may fit this.
The password is X, X, triangle, O, square. The voice seems convinced, and drops an elevator next to the pipe. Our heroes step on the platform, and they are elevated upward to the actual research centre.
In the elevated research centre, we find some people around. To the north is a shop. There’s a lot of stuff worth mentioning here.
First of all: Ivory Books are finally up for sale. This is a good chance to buy one for each party member if you got the money. Bronze Book is a new accessory. It raises item drop rate for battles. Bad Luck Bell is another accessory that raises encounter rate. The random encounter rate is fairly comfortable to my standards, but I guess this could be useful for grinding. Note that you can also buy Magic Fruits here! Come to think of it… there was a girl selling magic fruits back in Sol. How much were they worth? 8500G? I think we were getting ripped off there…
The lady to the left will fully restore HP and MP at no cost. As we climb up to the next stairs, check out the dresser next to the stairs for a hidden Magic Fruit.
The top floor is where we will meet Dr. Usha, finally in the flesh. Our heroes recount their journey up to this point to the inquiring doctor, and he decides to lend our heroes a hand.
In order to reach the Floating Castle, Usha suggests that we need to revive more Genesis Trees. There are 3 of them in Buma, but they are frozen in ice. However, there is a way to thaw the ice. A seru by the name of Koru lives in Nivora Ravine, and it breathes cold air, causing the frozen state in Buma. Usha suggests our heroes that the seru must be destroyed, but it must be done in a specific manner. According to Usha, Koru has been storing heat in its body for many years, and will create an explosion if not handled properly. Luckily, Dr, Usha has been preparing a TimeSpace Bomb that can counteract the heat explosion from Koru. However, they are missing one ingredient: Fire Droplets.
she says as she has no idea where to get them
Noa readily tells Usha that she’ll get the droplets (despite not knowing where to get them). So where can we get these droplets? Usha explains that they can be found in Uru Mais. Apparently, you must experience a dream within the home of the seru in order to summon Tieg, and obtain the Fire Droplets. Usha explains that his wife has a key that can open Uru Mais.
That was a bit of explanation, but did you understand all of that? Well, I hope so, because Mrs. Usha decides to quiz you on what you just learned.
FIGHT SONGI! |
SWIMSUITS FOR ADULTS!! |
The correct answers are in this order: Uru Mais, Dream dreams, The Fire Droplet, and Usha Research Center. By answering all questions correctly, Mrs. Usha will reward you with the Ruins Key. And with that, let’s make our way to Uru Mais!
To the west of the research center is Uru Mais. Our heroes look in awe at the black structure before them.
A neat thing is that Gala remarks on how we visited here before coming to Usha’s lab. Gala notices something I’ve mentioned before the first time we entered here: there is no mist. Let’s head closer to the building.
Our heroes climb to the top of Uru Mais, but they find no place to put the Ruins Key into. Just then, Noa hears something. Gala as well hears something. A voice calls out to them:
“You… was… key… ruins… who has… door… dreams… will be ope… Gather at… dream…! Door… open…”
Our heroes couldn’t make much out of what the voice was saying, but they notice light coming from the base of Uru Mais. Perhaps the way is now open.
Let’s head into one of these openings. Inside is a red winding corridor. Through the long corridor, there is a room with something in the center!
A voice speaks to Vahn, and he is put in a deep sleep. He unconsciously walks towards the center of the room and falls there. The ra-serus explain to Noa and Gala that Vahn is experiencing a dream and should not be interrupted.
We enter Vahn’s dream. It seems that we’re looking into Vahn’s past. He hears the voice of the Village Elder from Rim Elm. He seems to be talking to his father. Vahn’s mother has grown severely ill from giving birth to Nene, and Drake water could help her in this time. However, with the mist out like this, carrying the water from Drake Castle to here is too dangerous.
We see Vahn learn all this as he’s listening from outside his house. He walks in and acts as if nothing happened. Vahn’s father seems contemplative in this situation. Vahn’s mother is at the bed and speaks weakly to her son. Vahn decides to go out; it seems he’s going to go get the Drake water.
Night falls, and Vahn is still missing. Val figures out that Vahn must have gone out to get the water. He asks the village elder to open the wall. Seeing as the elder cannot convince him otherwise, he opens the wall for Val to look for his son.
Val returns with Vahn, but a seru attack left him with a broken leg. As for Vahn’s mother Nora… well, as you may guess, she passed away.
In an attempt to save her mother, Vahn failed and got his father crippled. Can you imagine the sheer guilt he must be feeling from all of this?
Vahn then
hears a voice reaching out to him:
“Vahn, do not blame yourself for the past.
Do not feel guilty. The past
cannot be changed. Instead, you must be
brave and work to create the future!
That’s what it means to be human!
For humans are those who are brave enough to create their own future.”
it's actually nice of them to check up on Vahn like that |
Vahn awakes from his dream, and our heroes are warped from this room back to the top of Uru Mais. Noa and Gala comfort Vahn as they see he had a bad dream. But as they talk, they notice the structure in the middle glowing. One leg of the piece is glowing red.
Mysterious figures appear before our heroes, surrounding them. But they seem to be just floating there. You can talk to them, but whatever they’re saying cannot be understood. Perhaps if Noa and Gala experience their dreams, something will happen?
Let’s head into the next door. We’re greeted with a long green corridor, much like the red one. We reach the room at the end of the corridor, and a voice reaches out to Noa. She is drawn to the center of the room, much like what happened to Vahn, and falls into a deep sleep.
In Noa’s dream, we hear a voice. King Nebular has decided a name for his and Queen Minea’s newly born child: Noa. The two royal parents are interrupted by a man named Jette, as he explains something happened with another person named Cort.
Cort...? Wasn't that the name Zeto and Dohati mentioned before? This troubles Nebular, and he decides to investigate it himself.
Some time passes, and we are met with a seru attack from the mist. The kingdom of Conkram is under attack.
Meanwhile, at a balcony, Queen Minea is talking with a winged man, a Soren. She asks the Soren to take Noa away from Conkram; far far away, to a land untouched by mist. The Soren accepts, and flies off with Noa. Minea, Nebular, and all of Conkram will fall prey to the mist, but they tried to take Noa away from it.
The Soren
flies as far as Mt. Rikuroa, but falls.
Perhaps from exhaustion?
Meanwhile a wolf approaches Noa and takes pity on her. A Ra-Seru awakens and approaches Noa. This ra-seru we all know as Terra decides to
stay with her, and the rest, as they say, is history. A voice reaches out to Noa:
“Noa, young victim of the whims of Fate.
The past etched in your mind is revealed! The pain of your past may have left large
scars and may gnaw at your heart. But
never lose hope! For where there is
hope, you can draw strength from the past.
That is what being human is all about!
For humans are those who, with hope in their hearts, find the future through
the past.”
Noa awakens, and everyone is teleported back to the top of Uru Mais. Noa is more determined to look for Conkram after having experienced her dream. Another light glows from the structure in the center. The ra-serus explain that that is the Phantasmal Light, caused by our heroes’ dreams. Gala starts asking how they know so much, but it seems they cannot talk about it for the time being. First, the ra-seru eggs in the mist generators, now this. What is this building up to?
Regardless, the beings around Uru Mais become more solid, and by talking to them, they seem to start to form coherent sentences. We’re making progress; all that’s left is Gala.
From the last opening, we are greeted with a blue corridor. Much like the previous 2, we are led to a room. Gala is drawn into the center of the room, and falls asleep there.
In Gala’s dream, we are back at Biron Monastery. Zopu is making an announcement: he will be holding a ritual tournament tomorrow. He chooses Gala and Songi to participate in the tournament. Songi provokes Gala and says that Gala thinks he’s gonna win the fight. He brushes it off soon after, but knowing Songi, that comment doesn’t seem so half hearted.
Songi asks for Jigul Grass from a lady staying in the monastery, as he says he’s suffering from a headache. However, the lady warns him that this grass will also make your body numb by ingesting it, but Songi insists on taking the medicine. The lady reluctantly gives it to her, and Songi leaves with the grass. I think you know where this is going…
In the moment before the tournament, Songi makes up a lie and tells Gala that he’s been taking Fury Boosts during his training, and has been overridden with guilt ever since (ha! Real believable). He asks Gala to take a Fury Boost for himself so that it would be a fair fight. But as you probably know, that Fury Boost is actually the Jigul Grass he took. Gala ingests it, and the 2 enter the next room.
Gala and Songi prepare to fight, but as expected, Gala’s body grows numb, and Songi uses this to his advantage to knock him out immediately. Songi is declared the winner.
Later, the lady from before accuses Songi for cheating, but Songi arrogantly brushes it off. But in a turn of events, she explains to Songi that she told Gala all about it, but Gala trusted in Songi, believing that he would never do something like that. This strikes a nerve in Songi, and rushes to Gala’s room. He finds him still unconscious, and calls him arrogant.
Instead of taking Gala’s actions as an act of kindness and trust, Songi only saw it as an act of humiliation, and resigns his friendship with him.
From Gala’s
bed, he hears a voice:
“Gala, you did your best. You have
nothing to be ashamed of. After all,
even when unavoidable misfortune occurs, it is the spirit that remains in the
end. So be proud of yourself! And use that pride to create happiness! That is what it means to be human! For humans are those who create their own
happiness with their pride.”
Gala awakens from his dream, and everyone’s teleported up to above Uru Mais again. Gala woke up from a memory that he did not want to remember. But with all that done, the structure in the center glows with its blue light, and the center bulb starts glowing.
A voice reaches out to them. It seems to be Tieg, and he tells our heroes that he will now explain what he is as well as the past. With that, the beings surrounding Uru Mais become completely visible. And now, we can talk to them and understand what they are saying. The following is what they say:
“In the beginning there was Tieg, and Tieg was everything. Then Tieg divided Himself into two. Those were human and Seru. Tieg also divided the world into two: the human world and Seru-Kai. To protect two worlds, Tieg placed ten Genesis Trees in human world and a Mother Genesis Tree in Seru-Kai. To govern Seru-Kai, Tieg chose a small group of Seru and gave them special Ra-Seru power. A thousand years ago, by the human calendar, the Ra-Seru Rogue plotted behind Tieg’s back. Rogue gave the humans Seru, but humans coveted the Seru’s power, bringing chaos to the human world. Tieg learned of the plot of the Ra-Seru Rogue and sealed him in the eternal dungeon of Rogue. But a few Seru in the human world were left to serve humans, who had built civilization with Seru. The Mist is the breath of the evil Rogue. But the Mist covering Legaia was created by humans. Tieg sealed the Ra-Seru in the human world’s Genesis Trees. And he ordered them: Help the compassionate humans save the world if a Rogue or other evil presence should appear.”
That’s quite a bit to digest. Apparently, Tieg, the god of this world, created both humans and seru as well as their respective worlds. The Ra-Serus were serus chosen by Tieg to help govern the Seru-Kai. However, one Ra-Seru Rogue betrayed Tieg and sent seru to the human world. Tieg found out about this, and imprisoned Rogue in a dungeon named after him. The mist represents Rogue’s evil, but Tieg placed the Ra-Seru into the genesis trees of our world in order to help fight against that evil. Things are getting pretty deep here.
Talk to the body in the center once you finished listening to the others. After listening to their stories, the bodies known as Tieg entrust our heroes with the Fire Droplet! The Fire Droplet is a manifestation of chaos, and it can only be obtained by opening the way to Tieg’s world. All the bodies of Tieg float toward a portal and enter it, and as that happens, the world before our heroes’ eyes start warping. The next thing they see, the Fire Droplet appears before them!
With that, our heroes finally obtain the Fire Droplet.
We just went through a spiritual journey to meet God, and He entrusted us the physical manifestation of chaos. Let’s make a bomb out of that! 😛
Noa waves goodbye to Tieg, and it’s our turn to leave this place.
However, just as our heroes leave, the ground starts shaking. The Ra-Serus inform our heroes that that’s not just any ordinary shaking; something deadly is approaching: the Sim-Seru Juggernaut!
They tell us to run away, as it is far too dangerous to even think about fighting it!
We are met with a CGI cutscene of Juggernaut approaching Uru Mais. It opens its gaping mouth, and fires a blinding beam. The beam blazes through Uru Mais, completely cutting through the structure! Juggernaut then disappears without a trace.
Uru Mais is destroyed. The Ra-Serus suspect that the mist henchmen felt threatened by Tieg, so they sent Juggernaut to destroy our only means of us to communicate with him. Despite that, we managed to get the Fire Droplet, so we can get that delivered to Dr. Usha.
But before our heroes go any further, Cara appears in front of them! Noa quickly comes forward and asks Cara if she could give our heroes her Ra-Seru Egg. Rather direct, don’t you think, Noa? Regardless, Cara agrees to give them her egg, but on one condition: they must revive the Genesis Trees in Buma first. Why does she want our heroes to revive the Genesis Trees there? Her motives are never fully explained here, aside from “love”, and she leaves our heroes as usual.
Some quick notes before we return to Usha’s Research Centre: with Uru Mais destroyed, you’ll notice that the mist is now rolling in here, meaning we’ll be encountering enemies here. Not much new enemies to talk about here, though. Another note to talk about is the Fire Droplet. I don’t show it here, but you can actually equip it as an accessory. It has an amazing effect in giving its user infinite AP! Meaning you can use your arts with no cooldown whatsoever! We got ourselves one of the most busted accessories in the game… and we’re immediately going to use it in the next scene. That’s just mean.
Let’s head back to Usha’s lab. We give him the Fire Droplet (goodbye infinite AP…), and he proceeds in making the bomb. After some science, Dr. Usha succeeds in making it!
He gives our heroes 4 TimeSpace Bombs. Usha gave them 4 bombs specifically for a reason. The first one is to open the way to Nivora Ravine. If you remember, it was blocked off by a giant block of ice. As for the other 3 bombs, there are 3 tunnels in the ravine our heroes must travel through, all leading to Koru. These bombs must be set off simultaneously in order to properly destroy Koru. He also explains to us that these bombs have a 3 second timer before activating. And with that, our heroes are set to travelling to Nivora Ravine!
Before we leave, our heroes are interrupted again by Mrs. Usha. She quizzes us once again in what we’re about to do.
The answers are in this order: Nivora Ravine, Entrance to Nivora Ravine, 3 seconds, and To awaken Buma’s Genesis Tree. For this quiz, you want to get each question right, because if you do, you are rewarded with 5 Healing Berries, 5 Healing Fruits, and 5 Magic Fruits!
Alright, that was quite a lore dump this part, so I think I’ll end things here for now. Next time: we head to Nivora Ravine and put a stop to this cold weather!
