Legend of Legaia - Part 22 - What is Love

Baby don't hurt me

Welcome back to more Legend of Legaia.  Last time, we went through a long, somewhat complicated process to revive the Genesis Trees in Buma, and fortunately, our efforts have beared fruit!  Today, we are going to try to reunite Cara and Grantes and see where we go from there.

Let’s head back to Buma and check out the town proper.  With the town thawed out and free from the mist, we can talk to the people around here.  They seem to know Cara, as well as some things about the Soren.

A lady in the inn will tell a story about how she saw a Soren carry a baby before the mist arrived.  That seems to coincide with Noa’s dream we saw back at Uru Mais.  Noa interrupts the story and says that was her.  The lady seems to take it well enough.

There’s a chest in the inn to pick up, so don’t forget to take the Magic Fruit in there.  Another house to the upper left corner has a hidden Healing Fruit in the… fireplace?

the fruit is still burning

Someone was roasting some fruit here?

so that's where the Chaos Breaker went after Shining Force 1

The shop in Buma sells new equipment.  Yikes, they’re expensive.  But that’s so for a reason: these are the best buyable equipment in the game!  There are a few more shops we’ll find along the way, but they will also include these weapon and armors.  Buy whatever you can with whatever money you have.

Some of the people that talk about Cara or the Soren, I’ll talk about a little later, as they coincide with a later subject.

Now, next to the town of Buma, you may remember a fishing spot that was once frozen.  Now that the ice is gone, we can fish here!  The fish you find here are different from the fishing spot back in Sebucus Islands.  You also get a different list of prizes in this fishing spot.  There is a hidden prize that only appears once you accumulate enough points, but I’ll discuss that much later…

While we’re on the topic of fishing, we can get a better fishing rod.  By going to Usha Research Lab, you’ll find a new fishing rod between the beds once you exit from the elevator.

a rod that is legendary

This is the Legendary Rod!  There’s also a Deluxe Rod you can buy back at the Muscle Dome, but from what I’ve read, the Legendary Rod is better in all manners.  Plus, you don’t have to pay a coin for it!

While we’re back on the overworld, I would like to discuss something now that we’ve learned everyone’s third hyper arts.  At this point, you are now able to learn something called Miracle Arts.  Miracle Arts is the ultimate attack for each character.  The requirement for learning it is that you must have learned all 11 regular arts and 3 hyper arts.  The attack input is 9 moves long, and it costs 99 AP to use it, but you unleash a flurry of arts in one combo.  Needless to say, it’s a very powerful move.  You can look up the move list to see what you need to input, but I’ll leave it a mystery for those who are following for now…

Now entering- aw geeze, back here?!

Let’s head back to Sol.  Yup, just when you think we’re done here, we have to come back.  After all, Grantes is still there sulking in the bar.  But before I go meet him, I wanna show here that I bought the Life Grail for 40000G.

A reminder: you can “negotiate” the price to drop it down to that much.

Grantes is still there in the Jazz Club.  We can talk to him, but he doesn’t seem to budge.  How else are we gonna show him the music score?  Well luckily, there’s a pianist in the club we can talk to.

Noa barges ahead of Vahn and asks him to play this music.  Despite commenting on how simple a piece it is, he decides to play anyways.

Grantes listens to the music, and something starts to open up within him.

Our heroes walk up to him and tell him that Cara is waiting back at Buma, and that Buma is free from the mist.  Gala gives him a talking as well.  Grantes says that the music playing was the song Cara played from his flute.  That was the day he met Cara.

Grantes decides that he’s had enough brooding, and wants to see Cara again.  He leaves the club, departing for Buma.

Meanwhile, Noa comments on how Gala knew so much about love.  Gala tries to brush it off, bashful.  By the way, the story about Grantes meeting Cara through song?  That sounds an awful lot like the story one lady was talking about – about how a Soren fell in love with a person on the ground.

Let’s head back to Buma.  Our heroes find Cara and Grantes reunited at last.

noa pls

Well, rather, Noa barges in right in the middle of an intimate moment.  Perhaps now we can ask what was going on with them.  Grantes decides that he should tell our heroes.

Grantes was once a Soren, but he fell in love with Cara, a surface-dweller.  This was considered forbidden love to the Soren.  The master of the Floating Castle, Zora, came to Grantes and said she could grant seru wings for Cara if Grantes helped her.  So under Zora’s order, Grantes stole the 3 ra-seru eggs and gave 2 to Zora, and the last one to Cara.  As expected, Zora lied to Grantes and never gave him the seru wings.  Grantes managed to escape, but was soon found out by the Soren.  He was banished from his tribe and had his wings taken away.  He has long desired to return as a Soren, but now he’s content to live as a surface dweller, as long as he is with Cara.

The two seem they will live happily ever after, but Gala brings up a request for Grantes.  Since he once had connection to the Soren, there may be a way to contact them with his help.  Grantes decides to help our heroes and gives them his Soren Flute.

vahn sure has long reach

This is a flute used to call for help between Soren, and as it has no more use to him, he wants our heroes to use it.  We’ll have to play it at the top of Mt. Dhini to call them.  Cara also decides to give our heroes her Ra-Seru Egg.

Alright, we helped bring Cara and Grantes together!  But more importantly, we got the Light Egg from Cara.

We can use it as an accessory, but it doesn’t seem much different from a Luminous Jewel.  However, we can do something very special with it.  Let’s head back to Jeremi and pay Zalan a visit.

Zalan will notice the Ra-Seru Egg we’re holding and asks if he could take a look at it.  By examining it, he says he can upgrade it for us, and by doing so, he will give us the Light Talisman!

By looking at its description, it seems like it does the same thing, but if you equip it, you will find you have a new magic.

new magic get

With the talisman, you can now summon Ra-Seru Horn!  Horn’s magic restores a lot (if not all) HP to all party members.  Though, the MP cost for this magic is ridiculous.

What this means though is that hidden all over the world are Ra-Seru eggs and their all-powerful summons that come from their talismans.  A few of them are easy to get, such as Horn, but others are far, far more involved to get.  I’ll talk more about them in a later part.

tfw you need 2 screenshots to show where you're going

But let’s get back to the main plot!  From Buma, we can now head northwest to a new area that was once blocked off by ice.  This will take us to Mt. Dhini.  It’s a bit of a trek, and we got some new monsters we gotta face off.

And here we got… more recolors!  Giant Rat is like the other rat monsters we’ve faced before.  I believe it can steal, just like the other rats, but I haven’t seen this one do it.  Death Trigger is much like the ostriches we’ve faced before.  It’s got a beak attack that does multiple hits, so be careful of that.

Speed Wolf has speed.  That’s really all I got about this monster.  High mantis though can hit pretty hard, so watch out for that.

now entering: Mt. Dhini

The recolored monsters here aren’t too noteworthy, as you may tell from my descriptions.  But eventually, we should reach our destination: Mt. Dhini.

Mt. Dhini

Mt. Letona

This totally isn’t a recolor of Mt. Letona.  It's exactly the same color!  Anyways, let’s head up, and we’ll find a gate blocked by stone wings.

By reading the inscription, it says that you cannot climb this mountain without the mark of a Soren.  However, we have the Soren Flute; it glows and the gate opens for us!

More monsters block our way, and they’re noticeably hard hitting monsters.

Ironman is much like the golem we’ve faced.  It doesn’t block often, but it can take a lot of hits to take down.  It also has a surprising amount of agility, so it can hit a number of times.  Garnet is another monster type we’ve faced before.  A bit stronger than its predecessor, it also can heal other monsters.

Iota is a new seru.  It hits fast and pretty hard.  No special attacks (or at least I’ve encountered) though.  Remember to use an Ivory Book if you wanna capture this seru.

Neo Bison is a tough monster.  A hard hitter and it blocks pretty often.  Beat it down with your best moves, and keep an eye on your HP.

Mushura returns and it’s now in its lvl 2 form.  Despite that, it’s a pretty easy seru to take down.  You may notice that a lot of monsters are earth elemental.  If the monsters here are giving you trouble, bring an Earth Jewel to reduce damage.

Most of the climb up Mt. Dhini is pretty linear.  In the first branch path, go down.  You should find a chest containing an Unholy Icon.

I’m… not 100% sure on what this accessory does, but after testing it out a bit, it seems to ignore enemy’s block rate, so you’ll always land a hit.  Target Chain already does a good enough job, and my party’s accessory slots are a bit occupied at this point.

Head back up to enter a cave.  This place looks an awful lot like Letona again…

Dhini

Letona

anyway, to head forward, take the bottom path to climb upward.  If that makes any sense.  The rest of the climb should be linear path to the top, so no worries about getting lost.

One chest later up ahead will contain a Good Luck Bell.  Well, we’ve seen a Bad Luck Bell, so you can assume this one does the opposite, right?  Well, yeah.  It reduces encounter rate.

Eventually, we’ll reach the top of Mt. Dhini.  We’re so high up that the mist cannot reach us.  At the summit, there are giant statues of birds.  Our heroes decide that this is a good place to play the Soren Flute.  Vahn plays it, and quickly, Noa notices the Soren coming.

The winged people approach our heroes and immediately are hesitant in coming any closer, as they find the ones who played the flute were not Soren themselves.  The leader of the group Luctes tell our heroes that they are trespassing on holy grounds, and tell them to leave.

Our heroes explain to the Soren that they are here to ask for their help to destroy the Floating Castle.  Their causes coincide with each other, so Luctes decides to discuss further with his Soren brethren.

I like how it's not even ellipses, it's (Long Silence)

After some deliberation, Luctes decides to take our heroes to their camp so they can discuss further with their elder.  Looks like we may get some answers here!

The Soren pick up our heroes and fly westward, away from Mt. Dhini.  They fly to a lone island, surrounded by mountains.  Within the mountains is a small village filled with winged people.  This must be the Soren Camp.

I think we will end things here for now.  A bit shorter part, but next part’s gonna be a pretty exciting one.  Next time: we meet with the elder of the Soren, and see if we can make our way to the Floating Castle!
